Members on Medical Insurance

It is a requirement of all medical schemes that you obtain authorization for a hospital admission prior to admission.

What is Required?

Your membership number (from the Medical scheme Insurance card), Name and details of the patient, the reason for the hospital admission or procedure, the date of admission, the name of the hospital, the procedure or diagnosis(those details are available from your treating doctor).

The hospital may assist you to get authorization for admission however; it is your duty to check that approval was given for treatment.

The member remains responsible for the hospital account in cases where the medical insurance scheme fails to pay the account or only partially settles the bills.
